Non-fiber Carbohydrates in Forages and Their Influence on Beef Production Systems

Forages can provide a complete diet for ruminant animals, increasing the sustainability of beef production systems worldwide while reducing competition with humans agricultural land or grain crops. Much emphasis on nutritional characteristics forages has been fiber, sugars, starch, and protein they supply to rumen, despite fact that other less-explored constituents, i.e., neutral detergent soluble fiber (NDSF) non-structural non-fiber carbohydrates ( NFC ) also play key role in nutrition ruminants. This paper explores less investigated potential temperate legumes accumulate levels comparable corn silage beet pulp cool, dry environments under irrigation, its implications forage-based systems. We conclude genetic managerial interventions (i.e., breeding programs, defoliation frequency) ecological conditions climate, elevation) increase concentrations enhance production, meat quality, efficiency nitrogen utilization by ruminants environmental impacts.
